They seem to take flight in the leaps they take within the enclosure and a few are not so easily corralled when it's time to clean up. The water was in need to being refreshed and food was low; I noticed some chicks pulling on each other during the evening. They will all pile on top of one another for naps and at night, but soon I will want to separate the roosters from one another.
They will still calm when they hear my voice and I react to their chirping happily because I've gotten quite attached. After they eat they relax and preen, falling asleep one by one.
It's not hard to take care of them and it's actually more enjoyable than other routines in my day to day cleaning. It also gives me a chance to handle them!
I think we found our prized egg laying hen because a larger more calm chick is among the flock. There's always one that doesn't run from the hand that feeds, and I noticed she is plumper than the rest as well. I think the picture (above) shows how confident she is compared to her litter mates who scramble to the corner.
